 Gold Gulch Ranch History

The Gold Gulch Ranch is hidden among the cottonwood trees along the Mojave River on Old Highway 66.  The original structure was built around the turn of the century. Ice cold Adelanto cider was served to weary travelers as they waited for their tires to be recapped. A process that was required about every 40 miles in those days due to the rough dirt roads. The Berger family soon added gas pumps, a swimming pool and Ms. Berger's great home cooking.

Berger's Station soon became a popular "get-a-way" for the famous and not so famous. Mr. Berger added small cabins along the then full and flowing river. The flood of 1938 wiped out everything and nearly the old metal bridge. The devasatation took its toll on Mr. Berger and with all his dreams "washed" away, he all but gave up on the place.

In time Route 66 gave new life to the ranch and it became the Gold Gulch. Lou Roehrig took over in 1950 and gave home to his famous gun collection & antique cars. Travelers then could enjoy "homemade" chili.

Again changing hands the Scissels purchased the ranch in 1978 with the dreams of once again putting it on the map. A dream come true for a young girl who once dreamed of owning Gold Gulch Ranch. A History of dreams and memories that time will never erase. Many have visited this ranch just to talk and set a spell. If the cottonwoods could talk, the stories they could tell of the history here.
